| Grant Criteria
For fiscal year end June 30, 2012 the Foundation is accepting grant applications only from the 57 county West Texas area as defined by the Foundation and shown on the following chart: West Texas Counties. If you are representing a non-profit organization within these counties and you have not received funding from the Abell-Hanger Foundation within the last two calendar years, please complete a "Pre-Application Summary." Upon return of this form, the Trustees will review your request to determine their level of interest. If interest is shown, you will be given instructions regarding the submission of a grant application and deadline. To complete a Pre-Application Summary Form click here. Specific grant guidelines and policies include: 1. Subject to the aforementioned current geographic limitation, the organization seeking a grant should be located in the State of Texas. National organizations with significant operations in or providing material benefits to the citizens of the State of Texas will be considered based on the degree of operations/benefits within the State of Texas. 2. The applicant organization must be determined by the Internal Revenue Service to be exempt from federal income tax. Applicants must provide a copy of their IRS Determination Letter of Ruling identifying their organization as exempt under section 501(c)(3) and exempt from Private Foundation Status under Section 509(a). Applicants who are exempt under a Government Municipality must also provide proof to such. 3. If you are seeking funds for a major capital campaign (defined as a campaign seeking to raise $1 million or more) approximately one-half of the needed funds must be raised prior to application to the foundation. 4. All requests from universities or colleges should be approved by the development office of the university or college and submitted to our offices under cover letter from the development office. 5. The Foundation does not make loans or grants to individuals. 6. The Foundation generally limits its educational grants to institutions of higher education, including religious educational institutions. 7. Applicants must seek funding for the same proposal from various sources, as sole support of programs is rarely undertaken. 8. Due to the number and magnitude of requests received each year, the Foundation cannot respond favorably to all requests. Thus, grants are made without any commitment for future support of operations or specific projects. |
